Week of November 26, 2007

Greetings all you girls & guys in 634, 734, and 834. It is already the end of November, and we have much work to do before the December break. 634, you are exploring the themes of Katherine Paterson, and analyzing her works. 734, you have finished your Gary Soto Author Study, and are beginning to read and analyze nonfiction books for children. 834, you are beginning to read and analyze journalistic feature articles. Homework is as follows:

11/30/07
634: Read your KP book per pacing calendar. Make an entry in your IRL or SWBS chart. Complete your "Constructed Response #2" in your Writer's Source Book.
734: Research your topic for your Nonfiction book.
834: Make an outline for your chosen topic. Begin to research your topic for your JFA.
11/29/07

634: Read in your KP book per pacing calendar. Make an entry in your IRL or SWBS chart. Revise, edit, and rewrite your Constructed Response #1 in your WSB.
734: In WSB: "What features I plan to use for my book and why."
834: Write an outline for your topic and begin to research.

11/28/07
634: Read on in your KP book per pacing calendar. Make an entry in your IRL or SWBS chart.
734: In WSB, complete "Cluster on (topic)" and "What I Know About My Topic."
834: Brainstorm for topics for your JFA.
11/27/07
634: Read the next chapter in your KP book. Make an entry in your IRL. Have your KP test signed. Make corrections on loose leaf.
734: In Writer's Source Book, make an entry entitled: "Brainstorming Topics."
834: Bring in a magazine. Read a magazine article and write a summary about it.
11/26/07
634: Edit, revise, and rewrite your Literary Letter for your K.Paterson book on loose leaf. Read on in your KP book and make an entry in your IRL or SWBS.
734: Read your independent book for at least 30 minutes. Make an entry in your IRL or SWBS.
834: Read in your independent reading book. Make an entry in your IRL. In your Writer's Source Book, make an entry entitled: "Brainstorming for Topics." Make a list of 10 possible topics for your JFA.

November 2007

Greetings all you girls and guys in 634, 734, and 834. November is half way over, and we are moving forward in our genre studies. 634, you are well into your Katherine Paterson Author Study. 734, you are finishing up your Gary Soto Author Study, and will begin your Children's Nonfiction genre study. 834, you have finished your Walter Dean Myers Author Study, and will be sharing your responses to literature. You will begin your Journalistic Feature Article genre study at the end of this month. Homework is as follows:

11/20/07
634: Rewrite your paragraph on your B to T character on loose leaf. Read on in your KP book,
and make an entry in your IRL. You will be tested on Monday 11/26/07 as follows:
The Great Gilly Hopkins from page 1 - 71.

The Sign of the Chrysanthemum, through Chapter 6 (page 54).
King's Equal - the entire book.

The Same Stuff as Stars through Chapter 8 (page 93).
734: Continue to revise, edit, and rewrite your Narrative Account. Final draft due Monday, 11/26/07. Read on in your Gary Soto book #2. Make an entry in your IRL.
834: Final WDM Response to Literature due. Be prepared for "Author's Chair."


11/21/07
634: Read on in your KP book. Study through the assigned pages for test on Monday. Complete your literary letter for your KP book in your Reader's Source Book.
734: Final draft of your Narrative Account due Monday, 11/26/07. Read on in your independent book. Make an entry in your IRL.
834: Bring in 3 or more magazines for our next genre study. Read one article in the magazine
and be prepared to discuss it. Read in your independent book. Make an entry in your IRL.
