Week of March 26, 2007

Greetings all you girls & guys in 634, 734, and 834. Spring is here and we are well into our genre studies. 634, you will be finishing Gary Paulsen's Woodsong in class, and beginning The Crossing. 734, you will be finishing your questions, and beginning to conduct your surveys. 834, you are continuing your historical fiction book, as well as your own historical fiction story. Homework is as follows:

3/29/07
634: Write Draft #2 of your Literary Letter in your Reader's Source Book.
734: Bring in polling reports. Revised survey questions - 4 forced choice, 4 rank order, and 2 open ended questions.
834: Complete the journey cycle of Simba in The Lion King.
3/28/07

634: Revise and edit your literary letter on Woodsong in Reader's Source Book.
734: Bring in more polling reports and your survey questions.
834: Read next chapter in your historical fiction book. Make an entry in your IRL.
3/26/07

634: Write a literary letter on Paulsen book #1.
734: Finish your survey questions.
834: Complete the story cycle for How Many Days to America. Read the next chapter in your historical fiction book.

Week of March 19, 2007

Greetings all you girls & guys in 634, 734, and 834. This week Spring arrives, and we are well into our genre studies. 634, you are almost finished reading your first Gary Paulsen book. 734, you will begin your polling report for your Executive Summary. 834, you will begin to read a historical fiction book independently, and continue writing your own historical fiction story. Homework is as follows:

634:In RSB, make an entry entitled, "Being A Seer." Predict how thew Iditarod will end for Paulsen. Read your Paulsen book. Make an entry in your IRL.
734: Revise and edit your Rank Order questions in your Writer's Source Book.
834: Read the next 15 pages in your Historical Fiction book. Write about your character's journey cycle.

634: Read Chapter 12 in your Paulsen book. Make an entry in your IRL.
734: Write 10 'forced choice' questions for your issue in your WSB.
834: Read next chapter of your HF book. In WSB, make an entry entitled: "Conflicts in my HF book."

634: Read Chapter 11 in your Paulsen book. Make an entry in your IRL.
734: Write 2 survey questions for each of the following: Forced Choice, Rank Order, Open-Ended questions
834: Read the next chapter in your historical fiction book. Make an entry in your IRL.

634: Read Chapter 10 in your Paulsen book. Complete the Reporter's Sheet for chapters 8 & 9. It will be collected and graded.
734: Bring in 3 polling reports from a newspaper, magazine, or the internet.

Week of March 12, 2007

Greetings all you girls and guys in 634, 734, and 834. This week, you will all be taking the New York State Math Test. Remember to get plenty of rest, have a good breakfast, and bring No. 2 pencils. In ELA, we will be continuing our genre studies. 634, you will continue reading and analyzing Gary Paulsen books. As you read your own Paulsen book, think about how it compares to Paulsen's Woodsong. 734, you are reading and researching your issue for your Executive Summary. You have written your thesis statement, and are in the process of writing about the problem and the solution for your issue. 834, you are reading and analyzing pieces of historical fiction. You are also researching for authentic details for your historical fiction character.
Homework is as follows:

634: Read Chapters 7 and 8 in your gary Paulsen book. Make an entry in your IRL.
734: Continue your research on your issue. Read your independent book. Make an entry in your IRL.
834: Complete your introduction draft. Read your independent book. make an entry in your IRL.

634: Read Chapter 7 in your independent Paulsen book. Make an entry in your IRL
734: Revise your counterargument on loose leaf. Finish the 'Ten Star Method' on Child Labor in your Reader's Source Book.
834: Write an introduction to your historical fiction story. Include details about the living space and chores your character might do on a typical day. Add a dialogue your character might have with a family member.

634: We did not meet because of the math test.
734: Write your 'Problem/Solution' essay on loose leaf. Complete the essay cover sheet.
834: Continue your research for your historical fiction character.

634: Review Chapters 5 and 6 in your Paulsen book. In your RSB, make an entry entitled: "Literature Circle Questions and Comments." Be prepared to have a discussion in your literature circles for chapter 6.

734: Continue researching background and history of your issue. Fill in "Sources of Information" chart.
834: Reasearch traditional foods, etc. for your character. Complete "Create a Character" chart.
