Week of 11/13/06
Greetings, all you girls and guys in 634, 734, & 834. The middle of November is here, as are the First Quarter Report Cards, and Parent-Teacher Conferences. It is time to reflect and think about ways to improve even more. All ELA classes will be taking the ELAP Assessments this week. Then 634, you will delve deeper into your Katherine Paterson Author Study. You will begin to read Jip in class, and finish your own Katherine Paterson book. 734, you will begin your Children's Nonfiction Genre Study. 834, you will begin your Journalistic Feature Article Unit. Homework is as follows:
11/16/06
634: Read Chapter 11 in your Katherine Paterson book. Make an entry in your IRL. The Field of the Dogs group, read Chapter 7. Make an entry in your SBWS chart.
734: In your Writer's Source Book, make an entry entitled :What I KNow About _______"
Write what you know about your topic.
834: In your Writer's Source Book, make an entry entitled "Brainstorming Topics." List at least 10 possible topics for your JFA

634: Read Chapter 10 in your Katherine Paterson book. Make an entry in your IRL. The Field of the Dogs group, read Chapter 6 and make an entry in your SWBS chart.
734: Brainstorm for a list of topics you might be interested in if you were to write your own children's nonfoction book.
834: On loose leaf paper, write a paragraph describing the kinds of magazine articles you enjoy reading. If you haven't done so yet, bring in 3 magazines with covers.
11/14/06
634: (We did not meet today because of Parent/Teacher Conferences.)
734: Bring in a nonfiction book. Listen to the news (on TV or radio) and take notes on TWO stories in your Writer's Source Book.
834: Take notes in your Writer's Source Book as you listen to TWO news stories on TV or on the radio.

634: Read the first half of Chapter 9 in your K. Paterson book. Make an entry in yout IRL. The Field of Dogs group, read chapter 5 and make an entry in your SBWS chart.
734: Take Notes in your Writer's Source Book, while listening to the News. Your entry should be: "Taking Notes on the News" Take notes on TWO news stories.
834: Use your class notes to answer the following questions on "Madame C.J. Walker" :
1. Trace Madame C.J. Walker's road to success. Use details from your notes to support your answer. 2. How did Madame C.J. Walker prove that hard worked helped her become successful?
